Dr Kelly Watkins

BSc Hons, MSc, PG Dip, PgD, DPsych

Psychology has always been more than a profession to me; it is a way of understanding people, reducing suffering, and helping individuals create meaningful and lasting change in their lives.

For over 19 years, I have worked across the NHS, HM Prison and Probation Service, private healthcare, education settings, community mental health services, A&E, secure hospitals, and private practice. Across all of these settings, I have supported individuals, couples, and groups from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences, each reinforcing a core belief: there is no single way to understand people, and every story deserves to be met with curiosity, compassion, and respect.

I am a HCPC-registered Forensic Psychologist, BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and EMDR Therapist. My approach integrates evidence-based psychological therapies with warmth, collaboration, and a deep respect for each person’s individuality. I support people experiencing anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, stress, and life transitions, helping them to make sense of their experiences and develop practical tools for change.

My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. I am committed to creating a space where people feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. I recognise that identity, culture, relationships, and lived experience all shape mental health, and I tailor therapy to the individual rather than expecting people to fit a model. Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in respect for who you are.

Alongside clinical practice, I have a strong commitment to research, education, and professional development. My academic background spans Psychology, Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, and Practitioner Forensic Psychology, culminating in a Doctorate (DPsych) in Forensic Psychology. I remain actively engaged with emerging research and believe that effective psychological practice is built on the integration of robust evidence, clinical expertise, and lived experience.

For over a decade, I have run a successful private practice, supporting clients to overcome difficulties and reconnect with the life they want to live. I also provide supervision to trainee, newly qualified, and experienced clinicians across private practice, the NHS, and higher education, supporting reflective practice, professional development, and clinical confidence.

Alongside this, I work as a consultant, trainer, and speaker, collaborating with organisations, research teams, and technology companies to develop psychological services, analyse qualitative and quantitative data, and design evidence-based wellbeing interventions. I am passionate about translating psychological science into practical, accessible tools that make a real difference in people’s lives.

I also share psychological insights through social media, workshops, e-books, and digital resources, with a focus on making psychology more accessible beyond the therapy room. I believe that understanding how our minds work should not be limited to clinical settings, but should empower people in their everyday lives.

At the heart of my work is a commitment to continuous learning, curiosity, and compassion. I am deeply invested in bridging the gap between research and practice, reducing stigma around mental health, and helping people feel more equipped to understand themselves and navigate life’s challenges.

Whether I am working one-to-one in therapy, supervising clinicians, teaching, consulting, or sharing knowledge online, my aim remains the same: to create spaces where people feel seen, understood, and supported to make meaningful change.

“Coming to Dr Kelly’s workshops is always a joy, she has such a kind and friendly demeanour, she was able to discuss concepts in a way that it was understood by everyone in the room but was also able to give us skills to improve or self-confidence in a way I had never experienced before”
