Managing Mental Health: A Glimpse into My Journey and Passions.
Well hello there, my name’s Kelly and welcome to my blog. To introduce myself professionally I am a Forensic Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
Personally, I would say I am multi-faceted, I am someone who loves to be in nature and going on walks but I also love going to festivals and listening to live music.
Something that has been a big part of my life and managing my own mental well-being is yoga, I have practised since I was 18 and keep toying with training as a yoga teacher but I have quite a bit on my plate at the moment.
In November 2022, I rescued a dog, Rosie, and if you follow me on social media she is a regular visitor so she may feature in some of my musings or more I will try and shoehorn her into the blogs somehow, purely for educational purposes of course. I like to find joy in the small things and hope that I will be able to share that with you too.
Demystifying Therapy: Using Social Media to Advocate Mental Health.
I am passionate about ending the stigma of mental health and demystifying therapy.
Although people being open with going to therapy and sharing their mental health difficulties is becoming more and more common which is fantastic, I still think we have a way to go.
In fact, that is why I started using social media for work many years ago I wanted to make an impact and bring about change.
When I saw the rise of mental health of professionals on social media, I had to jump on it. I was in stage school for most of my childhood and adolescent life so saw that posting videos was a way for me to scratch the itch of wanting to perform but also share in my mind important information.
Balancing Musings, Lessons, and the Journey to Mental Health.
I see my blog as my musings (I love that word), I will share lessons and some personal reflections but I also want to make it educational to share some tips to maybe support or help to understand certain concepts or experiences.
Some maybe lighthearted or some may be a little more serious, I am not sure where I am going with it exactly yet but that is part of the excitement for me of taking this first step.
But I have a secret to share with you this isn’t my first rodeo with blogging, I actually used to blog around 10-15 years ago, I did it in secret for a number of years and I didn’t tell anyone.
I don’t know why I didn’t tell anyone, but it was my little space on the internet and I found it extremely therapeutic.
Embracing Imperfection in Mental Health Journey.
Just FYI I have dyslexia so bear with me if things are written a little creatively, I am also trying to manage perfectionistic thoughts but if I let them take over then this blog would never see the light of day.
So that is a fun combination but I want to be real with you, contrary to popular belief psychologists / psychotherapists aren’t robots we are human too.
Anyhoo, I am glad to have you with me on this journey and I am totally open if there is anything you would like me to cover or focus on then please let me know.
